The Inspiration
Event planning can be a source of dread and anxiety for many. But for Elise Post, it was her calling — from a very early age.
“Ever since I was a little girl I loved planning parties,” Post said. But it was the experience of leading her brother’s high school graduation party that persuaded her that perhaps she could transform her passion into a viable business.
Post’s venture began with offsite work including balloon decor and planning events at customers’ homes or businesses. But soon enough, Post decided to take her vision to the next level by launching a brick-and-mortar event space. When she stepped foot in 114 W Michigan Ave — the former site of Unicorn Feed & Supply Store — she immediately realized this was the spot.
Since launching, Yours Truly has become one of the premier event venues in Washtenaw County, and is a regular site of bridal showers, graduation parties, holiday events, and more.
Looking Forward
While Post’s days are reliably jam-packed helping to plan upcoming events, she also finds time to pull back and think more broadly about the growth of her business and the impact she’d like to have.
“I’m very happy we’ve made it this far, and we’re definitely looking to the future,” Post said.
Post added that for any small business owner or entrepreneur, it’s important to give yourself breathing room, making time for yourself and your family, and to “make sure to actually clock out.”
Reflecting on doing business in Ypsi, Post said what she loves most about the city is that “there’s something for everyone here.”
