The Inspiration
Gavin Witten grew up among tradespeople. As a young man, he began working on job sites and learning the fundamentals of painting, drywall, and more. But as he grew older, and accumulated more experience, he started to appreciate how the various trades come together to transform a space. The joy of that process — working across disciplines to bring a dream space to life — inspired Witten to launch his own remodeling business, Witten Contracting, in 2021.
Since then, Witten and his team have built an impressive portfolio of completed projects. While bathrooms and kitchens are Witten’s specialty, his firm’s work has also included pergolas, ADU buildouts, basement refreshes, and even full home remodels.
Perhaps Witten’s defining characteristic, echoed by his clients, is his ability to balance incredible workmanship alongside professional and relational integrity. As one of his clients said, “We felt immediate trust with Gavin. He is striving for the best.”
Looking Forward
Witten’s goal is to be the best remodeler in Washtenaw County — a distinction that, talking to his customers, he’s perhaps already achieved. However, Witten emphasized that he never wants his professional ambitions to come at the expense of doing right by his clients and his staff.
“I always want to be accessible to the customer,” Witten said. “And I want the name Witten to reflect integrity, and that we’ll always deliver a solid, long-lasting product that you’ll be happy with for decades.”
While Witten’s work has expanded well beyond Ypsilanti in recent years, he said Ypsi holds a special place in his heart as a humble, welcoming town.
“Ypsi feels very down to earth, to me,” Witten said.
